Challenging the status quo

Since 2012, ECESS has been challenging the moral, legal, and technical obligations of the Waimakarri District Council (WDC) and Environment Canterbury's (Ecan) consent to build two high-impact large dams. This is a serious issue affecting you, your family, and your future.

Consent requirements and community safety

The consent ruling imposed 52 consent conditionson WDC and Waimakarri Irrigation Limited (WIL), with monitoring by a Community Liaison Group (CLG). Key among these requirements are insurance and personal safety protocols. It's vital that everyone in the flood zone is acutely aware of the Emergency Evacuation Plan (EEP).

Emergency evacuation plan

Everyone in the flood zone needs to be acutely aware of the Emergency Evacuation Plan (EEP). This document outlines the procedures and steps to take in the event of a dam breach or other emergency situation. Your safety and the safety of your loved ones depends on understanding and following the EEP.

Your safety matters

ECESS is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents in the potential flood zone. We believe it's crucial to have open and transparent communication regarding the risks associated with the dam projects.
