Fighting to ensure that residents are aware and informed about their safety

Since 2012, ECESS has been challenging the moral, legal, and technical obligations of the Waimakarri District Council (WDC) and Environment Canterbury's (Ecan) consent to build two high-impact large dams. This is a serious issue affecting your safety, your family's safety, and your future.

Consent requirements and community safety

The consent ruling imposed 52 consent conditions on WDC and Waimakarri Irrigation Limited (WIL), with monitoring by a Community Liaison Group (CLG). Key among these requirements are insurance and personal safety protocols. It's vital that everyone in the flood zone is acutely aware of the Emergency Evacuation Plan (EEP) to ensure their safety.

Emergency evacuation plan: Your Safety is Our Priority

Everyone in the flood zone needs to be acutely aware of the Emergency Evacuation Plan (EEP). This document outlines the procedures and steps to take in the event of a dam breach or other emergency situation. Your safety and the safety of your loved ones depends on understanding and following the EEP.
