BHSL meeting comments
Dear Members,
Thank you all for turning up to the meeting on the 24th at the Oxford Working Men’s Club, it was a great turnout.
It was a challenging meeting for BHSL to preside over, and as Matt Doocey stood up and stated to the BHSL team, “You need to do much better”, that encapsulated the feeling of the entire room. When four us from ECESS visited Matt Doocey to discuss our concerns with him his advice to us was to “lawyer up”. We had hoped for more. One of the key statements he made was directed to BHSL/WIL informing us all that “you don’t have money yet”, that indicated that there are still boxes they need to tick off before the Konoa Fund will be granted. Unfortunately, we don’t know what those boxes are.
At this stage ECESS has not heard anything about BHSL plans moving forward directly, but if you look at their website BHSL and go to Community Liaison Group heading you will see under that heading an application form for you to fill out if you wish to be considered as part of the CLG. I can only encourage you all to do that.
ECESS has not received any minutes from that meeting, and I will be writing to the admin team at WIL/BHSL tomorrow and asking for those and we will post on the www.ecess.org.nz website.
I have received quite a lot of feedback from you, and it is important that you express all questions and your concerns direct to WIL/BHSL. ECESS cannot supply you with answers to questions you my raise pertaining to their processes, and indeed it would be inappropriate for us to do so, as we may inadvertently respond incorrectly.
If you have questions of ECESS we encourage you wholeheartedly to connect with us and ask, if you want to be on the steering committee then that we would receive openly also.
One of the most constant things we are hearing is that you wish us to continue doing all we can in our efforts to stop the dam. While we know it is consented and will probably be built, we are still looking at avenues and exploring options as they present to us.
With thanks Catherine Chair ECESS
